Comfort Glazing Options
All Velux skylight feature exclusive Comfort coating specially formulated to allow the best of the outdoors in while protecting the interior of the home from unwanted heat gain/loss, fading, and condensation.
1. Comfort Insulated Glazing Unit
- Tempered, Low-E Argon Gas-Filled
- Offers maximum insulating value - Argon gas injected between panes further reduces heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter.
- Two to five times stronger than ordinary glass - provides protection against windblown debris and hail.
- Provides twice the condensation resistance as compared to ordinary clear glass.
- 75% fading protection factor.
2. ComfortPlus Insulated Glazing Unit
- Laminated, Low-E ARgon Gas-Filled
- Offers great insulating value plus a superior fading protection factor of 83%.
- Shatter-resistant safety glass with a vinyl interlayer prevent glass particles from falling if breakage occurs.
- Required by building codes in certain applications check local requirements.
Flashing Systems
1. Shingles or Shakes - Type EDL Step Flashing
- Used with thin roofing materials such as asphalt or fiberglas shingles, slate, cedar shingles and shakes (shakes and other thick roofing materials also require Type ZZZ 165 flashing)
- Each piece of step flashing is interwoven with a layer of roofing material for proper water run-off and to provide a weathertight seal around the unit.
- Required for roof pitches from 15° (3/12) to 85°.
2. Tile Roofing - Type EDW High Profile Flashing
- Used with high profile roofing materials such as concrete and Spanish tile.
- The patented sill flashing is a flexible apron which forms to the roofing material for a low profile exterior.
- Required for roof pitches from 15° (3/12) to 85°.
3. Metal Roofing - Type EDM Metal Roof Flashing
- Used with metal panel roofing materials.
- Required for roof pitches from 15° (3/12) to 85°
4. ZOZ 211 roofing underlayment
- This roofing underlayment is an alternative to roofing felt that wraps the skylight or roof window to provide added protection from extreme weather conditions. This is especially important in areas where ice and snow accumulate on the roof.
